Shibu Yooseph

Shibu Yooseph is a Senior Computational Scientist in the Bioinformatics Group at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). His current research projects are in the areas of environmental metagenomics, in particular protein analysis and synthetic genomics. His research interests include phylogenetics, sequence analysis, and SNP analysis. He received his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering in 1992 from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, India, and his Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science in 1997 from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS), Rutgers University 1997-98. He was also a Consultant at Lucent Technologies (Bell Labs), Murray Hill, during that period. During the period 1998-2000, he was a Research Associate in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Southern California. During 2000-03, he was a Computer Scientist in the Informatics Research Group at Celera Genomics and Applied Biosystems where he contributed to the mouse genome project and the functional genomics and proteomics efforts.
